BHOPAL: In a rare event, a 45-year-old woman from Madhya Pradesh, has chopped off the genitals of a man who allegedly attempted to rape her.

As per reports, the incident took place at Umariha village in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi district, when the man creeped into the woman's house on Thursday at 11 PM. The women was sleeping with her 13-year-old son, when the accused entered the house with malicious intentions, Khaddi police outpost in-charge sub inspector (SI) Dharmendra Singh Rajput said.

Reportedly, the woman's husband was out of station for work and her son ran for life after he thought that some thief has sneaked into the house. Taking advantage of the situation the man forced himself to the woman, thrashed her and tried to sexually assault her.

She countered his attempt for 20 minutes, and then in a bid to save herself she got hold of a sickle lying under her cot and chopped off the man's genitals, the police informed.

Eventually, a case was registered against the accused, after the woman reached the police outpost and lodged a complaint against him around 1.30 am on Friday. The accused has been booked under IPC section 354 (criminal force on woman with an intent to outrage her modesty), 456 (house-trespass or house-breaking by night), 294 (obscene acts), 506 (criminal intimidation) and others.

Soon after the accussed was admitted to Sidhi district hospital and was later shifted to Sanjay Gandhi Medical College and Hospital in Rewa district for further treatment, informed the police.

According to reports, the police said that the accused has also filed a report against the woman based on which a case has been registered against the woman under IPC section 327 (voluntarily causing hurt).

Madhya Pradesh has seen a steep rise in cases of rape against women. As per NCRB data Madhya Pradesh registered the highest number of rape cases in India in 2018 as the state accounts for 16% of all rape cases in the country.
