New Delhi:

Wrestler Sushil Kumar, who was arrested in connection with the murder of another wrestler, has asked for protein supplements, exercise bands, and a special diet as he prepares for the forthcoming Tokyo Olympics.

Sushil Kumar, the first Indian to win two individual Olympic gold medals, has filed a plea in a Delhi court.

On May 23, the champion wrestler was arrested by Delhi police in connection with the death of his junior, Sagar Dhankar, in the national capital's Chhatrasal Stadium.

According to the police, Mr. Dhankar died in a Delhi hospital in the first week of May after being assaulted by Sushil Kumar and his accomplices.

The police have also obtained a videotape of the crime, in which Sushil Kumar and his accomplices are seen assaulting the victim.

Before his detention, Sushil Kumar had been on the run for over three weeks.

A typical jail diet consists of five rotis, two vegetables, dal, and rice, which are served twice a day to convicts. They can also purchase products costing 6,000 from the prison canteen once a month. The prison diet, however, is proving insufficient for Sushil Kumar, who is famed for his muscular physique.

Sushil Kumar's special diet calls for Omega 3 capsules, pre-workout supplements, and multivitamin tablets, among other things.

The court is expected to rule on Sushil Kumar's petition on Wednesday.

Sushil Kumar is being kept in a separate cell at the Delhi's Mandoli jail. For security reasons, he is not authorised to meet with anybody.
