Yoga Mahotsav 2023 Begins 100 Days Countdown for International Yoga Day

The minister highlighted the role of International Day of Yoga celebrations in creating awareness and popularity of yoga.

NEW DELHI: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the Yoga Mahotsav, 2023 to kickstart the 100 days countdown to International Day of Yoga, which is held on 21 June every year. During the event, the minister highlighted the role of International Yoga Day celebrations in creating awareness and popularity about the wonderful heritage of Indian culture towards building a healthier & fitter mankind, both in India and the world.

The inauguration ceremony of Yoga Mahotsav was attended by G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Culture Tourism and DoNER, N. Biren Singh, Chief Minister of Manipur, Meenakshi Lekhi, Union Minister of State for External Affairs & Culture and Dr Munjpara Mahendrabhai, Union Minister of State for Ayush. Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary of Minister of Ayush, Dr H.R. Nagendra the Chancellor of SVYASA University, Munishree Kamal Kumar of Terapanth Samaj in Rajasthan and international athlete Hima Das were also present.

“Corporate India has also played a critical part towards achieving this. Towards furthering our commitment towards a healthier tomorrow, I call upon all the Corporate houses to set up a ‘Yoga Cell’ in their workplace, so that the employees and staff at the office can reap the benefit of Yoga. This will not only rejuvenate the working class of India but also help the corporates to optimise efficiency.” mentioned Sarbananda Sonowal in the opening event.

He also mentioned how India’s presidency in the prestigious G-20 group has helped to share the commitment ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ with all the guests who have come over for different meetings.

G Kishan Reddy also said , “Yoga has become a vital component of tourism, and our Hon'ble Prime Minister sees Yoga as a cultural ambassador to unite people worldwide. With the growing popularity of Yoga his Ministry has launched Medical and Health Tourism, which focuses on offering specialized yoga and wellness programs to visitors seeking to improve their health and well-being.”
