Gorakhpur: Uttar Pradesh chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday created history as he won from Gorakhpur by over one lakh votes.
Both incumbent chief minister Yogi Adityanath and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav won from their constituencies, Gorakhpur Urban and Karhal respectively.
Interestingly, so far, a total of 381 NOTA votes were polled in the key constituency.
During the counting, Adityanath was watching the poll outcome from his official residence in Lucknow, his supporters at the Gorakhpur Math and at the party office started celebrating his and the BJP's victor in the state.
With his win, the chief minister also broke the ''Noida Jinx''. Notably, a myth was nurtured for over 30 years that any chief minister who visited Noida would inevitably go out of power.
This assembly election of UP is being considered as the semi-final of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections following which all parties have left no stone unturned.
There are total 403 seats in the UP Legislative Assembly and to form a government with an absolute majority, any party must win at least 202 seats. Earlier in the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP had won 312 seats alone.
BJP had fought the last election without any CM face, but this time the election was fought with the face of Yogi Adityanath in front.
