GUWAHATI: Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government refused the claim of banning cell phones in Universities and colleges of the state late on Friday. Earlier it was in the news that the UP government has issued a circular prohibiting students and teachers in UP from using cell phones inside the Universities and college campus.
The reports also claimed that the Directorate of Higher Education issued the circular to ensure a better teaching environment across all the colleges and universities.
According to the Directorate of Higher Education, no such directive has been given by the education board.
As per sources, Deputy Chief Minister, Dinesh Sharma said that it is expected that the students keep their phones on silent mode or switched off during classes so that the class is not disturbed and the rule already exists.
Denying the report, Dr. Vandana Sharma, director, higher education, UP, said: "This is completely untrue. No order has been issued by my office to date to ban cell phones in universities and Degree colleges.”
“An order was issued by Kanpur’s Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj University on Wednesday that directed all Head of Departments at the university and principals of affiliated colleges to ensure that students do not use cell phones in classrooms,” an education department official said. The registrar of the university, Dr. Vinod Kumar Singh said, this order restricted use of phones in classrooms at institutions affiliated to the university.
