Mumbai: It was a tearful moment for the Indian cricket fans and also for the sportsperson who chose to bid adieu to International cricket today while his teammates in London are battling the war of World Cup Cricket. Yuvraj Singh, with teary eyes and an emotional tone, pulls down the curtains of his international cricket career today. This was certainly not easy for Yuvraj, who was once a vital part of his team and had come out a winner in his battle with cancer.
The charismatic player from Punjab, the creator of many legendary matches and winning moments, Yuvraj’s contribution to the Indian cricket will always remain marked with golden letters.
The former Indian cricketer announced his formal retirement during a press conference in Mumbai on June 10, 2019. Yuvraj, speaking to the media, says, “After 25 years, in and around 22 yards, and after almost 17 years of international cricket on and off, I have decided to move on. Cricket has given me everything and is the reason why I stand here today.”
A powerful batsman on the field and a heavy-hitter with 8,701 runs being scored in a total of 304 One Day international matches. The player played in 40 Tests, 304 ODIs and 58 T20Is representatives his nation.
The 37-year-old cricketer further speaks about the number of games he played for India and says, “I was extremely lucky to play 400 games for India. I could have never imagined it when I first started playing cricket.”
A fighter in the true sense, Yuvraj was not only a strong and adamant winner on the field but off the field in his personal life as well. The left-arm spinner won the biggest challenge of his life when he conquered the cancer disease that attacked him soon after the 2011 World Cup.
Speaking about his experiences with cancer, he says, “I was not going to let that disease defeat me.”
