27 shops gutted in fire at Pasighat market

ITAGAR, May 12: At least 27 shops including three arms and ammunitions shops were reduced to ashes when a devastating fire engulfed the Pasighat market in East Siang district. The fire which broke out at midnight yesterday, also partially damaged eight other shops, an official report said here today.

Four fire tenders including one from Joi in neighbouring Assam and another of the Indian Air Force along with a JCB took several hours to douse the inferno. The cause of the fire is being investigated, the report said.

East Siang DC Isha Khosla along with district disaster magement officer (DDMO) Genden Tsomu rushed to the spot after getting information and took stock of the situation.

Immediate reliefs to the victims were distributed by the district administration.

Meanwhile, local MLA Kaling Moyong expressed his deep sorrow and grief at the unfortute incident and informed that he had already taken up the matter with Chief Minister Kalikho Pul, the report added.
