37 Bn SSB organizes campaign on 'Beti-Bachao, Beti Padhao'

TANGLA, Nov 21: The 37 Bn  Sasastra Seema Bal, in collaboration with Song and Drama division, has organized a two-day long campaign on the theme ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ at Joraphukhuri Model English School premises along the Indo-Bhutan border in Udalguri district on Tuesday and Wednesday. The programme, which kickstarted on Tuesday, was iugurated by Commandant 23rd Battalion SSB, H.Jiten Singh amidst a large gathering of local people. Attending the programme as chief guest, Panery MLA Kamali Basumatari stressed the importance of educating the girl child. Citing examples of great daughters like astrouts Sunita Williams and Kalpa Chawla and IPS officer Sanjukta Parashar, Basumatari said that though gender discrimition did not exist in Northeast India, unlike other parts of the country, yet in early days the girl child was not given the scope for higher studies.

 Basumatari appreciated the efforts of SSB and said that she would assist in the programme of SSB for the development of border areas as well as to uplift the social scerio of the border populace. The jazz band team of the Song and Drama division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Guwahati division, also presented a programme on ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ during the iugural function on Tuesday. The villagers also ected drama and dance programmes on the theme of the campaign to educate the village folks on the importance of girl child. During the two-day long campaign, free medical civic action programme will also be held.
