Joysagar, Nov 4: A 36-hour ONGC bandh has been called by the Brihattar Asomiya Yuba Mancha (BAYM) Sivasagar District Committee on November 16.
The organization alleged that for various reasons, a powerful anti-Assamese lobby in ONGC was depriving Assamese educated and unemployed youths of Sivasagar and Upper Assam from getting tenders and work orders of various contracts in the oil company.
BAYM also slammed some local powerful businessmen and contract firms alleging that such groups were also helping the anti-Assamese lobby and depriving local youths from contracts and other employment opportunities. Meanwhile, BAYM also demanded the ONGC higher authorities to take charge of maintence of Sivasagar and to declare this city as an ONGC adopted OIL city within a very short period. The organization has declared a 36-hour bandh of ONGC to draw the attention of the higher authorities as well as the Union Petroleum Ministry.
