Dibrugarh, March 14: The Asom Ga Parishad (AGP) is ready to contest in 93 gaon panchayats and 23 zila parishads in the stretches of seven assembly constituencies of the district. The AGP Dibrugarh district committee has decided to contest the elections independently despite having an alliance with BJP and BPF in the present State Government. This decision was, however, taken after the BJP announced that it would fight the same elections independently.

Dibrugarh district committee of AGP organized an extended executive meeting on Wednesday with district president Pukanta Baruah in the chair. The meeting resolved that the AGP members who want to contest in the forthcoming panchayat elections should submit their application on or before March 23. Also, those who want to contest for the position of ward member, panchayat president and councillor have to submit their application forms to regiol committees and those who want to contest in Zila Parishad have to submit their application forms to Assembly Constituency Committee or the committee constituted for Panchayat elections, the meeting concluded. The AGP district committee would then filize the mes of the candidates after scrutinizing the application forms.

Moreover, Jatiya Seta Jagaran Jatra will be launched by the AGP Dibrugarh district committee in each gaon panchayat from March 16, a press communiqué released by the AGP Dibrugarh District Committee stated.  The Jatiya Seta Jagaran Jatra will expose the unlimited corruption in the panchayats under the Congress and will also be against the decision of the Central Government to grant citizenship to the Hindu Bangladeshis in Assam.
