An app which is just very first-of-its-kind is very soon to be launched and bring colourful, fresh orchids to your smartphones. Yes, you have heard it right that an app is all set to be launched wherein there will be amazing pictures of the Orchids of Himalaya which are found especially in Sikkim and Arunachal along with those of other north-east India. This amazing new app is scheduled to be launched at the Eastern Himalayas Naturenomics Forum meet in November.

Apart from enjoying the mesmerizing beauty and particular characteristics of the orchids, a user will be able to find a complete database of different species of orchids of Eastern Himalayas. Notably, this unique app is being developed by the Balipara Foundation, which is an NGO based in Assam in collaboration with ‘Orchid hunter of India’ Naresh Swami. Swami is the author of Terrestrial Orchids (2016) and Hidden Treasures: Rare Plants of the Alpine Himalaya.

Notably, an ardent orchid lover, Swami has travelled about 27,000 km on foot in search of unknown plants, particularly orchids. He has been on foot expedition into the greens of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh and has documented over 530 species of orchids in Sikkim. The materials collected and documented by Swami have rendered a rich content to this app and is sure to stand out in the row of thousands of other apps. This app will display 200 species of orchids, and will also be upgraded to 350 species next year.

Saurav Malhotra of the Balipara Foundation said, “In the coming years, this app will showcase all the orchid species from the region of eastern Himalaya, thus establishing it as a database and reference for further studies and research for everyone across the globe.”

For the users of the app, there will be five stunning images and description of each of the orchid species. Adding further, he said, “The most important factor of this app is that, it can be viewed offline and is free to download, thus enabling usage of the same in far-off regions where internet is not available. Also, the free download will help everyone make the most of this app.”

Well, if you too are a flower lover and particularly have a special craze for the orchids, then this is going to be the ultimate app for you to give a real treat to your eyes and also expand your knowledge on them. This app is going to be available in Google Play for an easy installation on your phone.
