Anti Corruption Bureau Arrests Government Official On Charges of Graft

GUWAHATI, Aug 8: The Anti Corruption Bureau on Wednesday arrested Jagannath Saikia, an Upper Division Assistant while taking a bribe of Rs. 3000 from Bhashkar Jyoti Nath for clearing the file regarding the Leave Salary encashment of his father, who had retired in 2011. The accused person had demanded a bribe of Rs. 6000 from the complainant. Bhashkar approached the ACB PS and a case {19/2018 u/s 7(a)/13(1)(a)/7(b) of PC Act (as ammended in 2018)} was registered. Saikia who works at the office of the Deputy Inspector of Schools, Sonitpur (Tezpur), was caught red handed from his office. Another named accused, Dipak Singh was also detained, and interrogated on the spot. Investigation is on. ‘House Search’ will follow. The arrested accused will be forwarded to the Special Court tomorrow, sources informed.
