MANGALDAI: A total of 854 star mark holders in the 2018 HSLC and AHM examinations of Darrang district were awarded laptops under the Anundoram Borooah Award scheme at Mangaldai on Saturday.

In the function organized for the ceremonial distribution of the laptops by the district administration at Sainik Bhavan, a total of 854 students, out of which 583 were from 111 government provincialized schools and madrassas while the remaining 271 from 19 private schools, were presented laptops. Distinguished guests like BJP legislators from Mangaldai and Sipajhar, Gurujyoti Das and Binanda Kr Saikia respectively, Deputy Commissioner of Darrang, Ghanashyam Das, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education) Kalpana Deka, officiating Inspector of Schools Dr. Juwahira Tabassum and Principal of Sipajhar College, Dr. Pradip Deka ceremonially gave away the laptops to the meritorious students.

Taking part in the function, legislator Gurujyoti Das appealed to the students to try harder to secure better result and to win more awards in future. He also urged them to become good human beings and to serve the society.

Legislator Binanda Kr Saikia also appealed to the students to make the best use of the laptops. Deputy Commissioner of Darrang, Ghanashyam Dass laid stress on the importance of time management and hard work for a student who wanted to do something in life. Sharing his experience of hard work and time management to secure the 23rd rank in the IIT joint entrance exam and then to secure 89th rank in the UPSC, he told the students, “If you waste your time, then time will waste your future. In the same way, in your student life you have no replacement of hard work.”

Mangaldai Don Bosco High School topped the list with 63 awardees among the private schools followed by Sipajhar Jatiya Vidyalaya with 35 awardees while Mangaldai Town Girls’ HS School topped the list of government provincialized schools with 27 awardees followed by Lengeriajhar Krishak High School with 22 and Sipajhar HS and MP School with 21 awardees.

In the beginning of the function, all the dignitaries offered floral tribute to the portrait of Anundoram Borooah. A large number of students, guardians and teachers also attended the function to encourage and inspire the students.
