Aruchal girls win regiol round K-Pop contest

Itagar, July 3: Aruchal girls Janeth Pinggam (14) and Sophia Michi (14) won the vocal category of Assam Regiol Round of the K-Pop Contest -- a musical genre origiting in South Korea -- organized by Bhaoriya, a Guwahati-based cultural organization, in association with Korean Cultural Centre India, at Guwahati recently.

They will be joined by two filists each from the contests to be held in Dimapur and Aizawl. The winners of the contest will vie for top spots in the 6th World K-Pop Contest to be held in Changwan city of South Korea in the end of September. Janeth is a student of Royal Academy School, Itagar while Sophia is from VKV Itagar. Both Janeth and Sophia have qualified for the fils to be held at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi on July 29. K-Pop musical genre is used to describe a modern form of South Korean pop music based on a range of western styles and genres on top of its traditiol Korean music roots. Kim Kum Pyoung, Director Korean Cultural Centre and Priyanka Mazumdar, winner of K-pop India 2016, who represented the country for the first time in the World K-Pop Festival last year, attended the event as special guests, a press release informed on Monday.
