Arunachal Pradesh Police Arrested Two Burmese Poachers In Kamlang

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh police have arrested two Myanmarese nationals who sneaked into the Indian territory for poaching of wild animals, police said Thursday.

The protection force of Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary in Lohit district, during their routine patrolling apprehended five poachers on July 1 last from the sanctuary, Lohit SP DW Thungon informed.

The SP informed that Range Forest Officer (RFO) Avard Singh Rawat and his team detained the poachers from the dense jungle and handed them over to the police.

Among the arrested poachers, Jetes Lisu (24) Timuk Hai Lisu (40) are Myanmar nationals. However, the other three - Ngualisa Yobin (16) Ngasabo Yobin (24) and Ngwadini Lisu (25) are from Vijaynagar in Changlang district.

Over 50 Kg of Mishmi Takin meat, wild Paris Polyphylla (corm), Myanmar-made one improvised rifle, cartridges, bird traps, cell phones, were also seized from their possession, the SP said. The two Myanmarese nationals were later brought to Tezu, the district headquarters, for interrogation. Officers from the Special Bureau of state police and SIB have cross-examination the arrested foreign nationals to authenticate their motive of intrusion.

“After interrogation we came to know that these Burmese accompanied their relative of Vijaynagar in search of Paris Polyphylla which fetched high price in international market. They found the carcass of the Takin already trapped and dried them to sale at Wakro to buy food,” Thungon said.

The SP added that the Myanmarese nationals were booked under the relevant provisions of the Foreigner Act, for trespassing into the Indian territory, Arms Act (for possessing arms) and Wildlife Protection Act. “They were produced before the magistrate on July 2 who remanded them to three days police custody. However, they will be remanded to judicial custody on Friday,” Thungon said. When asked about their repatriation, the SP added that as per the guidelines of the union Ministry of Home Affairs, they cannot be repatriated unless they face trial and punishment.
