NAGAON: District committee of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) and the district unit of Asom Yuva Parishad, a brother organization of Asom Gana Parishad on Sunday burned the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at two separate spots in Nagaon town for his recent remark in Silchar as well as his stiff stand to pass the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 in the parliament and termed him a betrayer.
The district body of AJYCP during the agitation demanded to dismiss or dispose the proposed Amendment Bill by any means as it was completely against the interest of the greater indigenous Assamese people. The district committee of the organization, however, said that the BJP led saffron party was trying to polarize the foreigners on religion basis and the organization would never accept that. The body said that foreigners are foreigners whether they are Hindu or Muslim.
The district president of the organization, Deepmoni Bora warned the BJP government and said, “If the government moves to table the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in the Parliament or dare to pass it, the saffron party will get a better response in next parliamentary election.”
On the other hand, District committee of the brother organization of Asom Gana Parishad, the alliance inmate of the state government, on Sunday simultaneously at Joishree cinema hall Chariali also burned the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and staged a protest against the recent stern remark of PM Modi in Silchar in favour of the proposed Citizenship Amendment Bill. The unit clearing its stand against the bill said that they would never compromise for such a suicidal bill in the state. The organization demanded to terminate immediately the bill for the greater interest of the indigenous people of Assam.
