Assam Government’s decision to grant permission to 300 liquor shops opposed

GOLAGHAT: The activists of Mod Mukta Axom Dabi Samiti, Golaghat district committee staged sit-in on Friday near the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Golaghat to oppose the decision taken by the Assam Government to issue permission to open 300 liquor shops in Assam.

The protesters raised various against the Assam Government as well as State Excise Minister Parimal Suklabadya for taking the decision of open 300 liquor shop in Assam by neglecting the demands of Mod Mukta Asom Dabi Samiti.

The chief organizer of the organization, Prabin Das said that availability of liquor in rural areas was harming families. In villages, local-made liquor (sulai) is available even in a small paan shop. He alleged that an increase in alcohol consumption had led to increase in crimes like rape, theft and robbery. The government, without thinking about people’s interests, had decided to give permission to open 300 liquor shops in Assam. The organization slammed Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and said that his government wanted to destroy the future of the youths of Assam. They submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat in this regard.
