Assam Rifles, Indian Coast Guard to synergize resources and signed the ‘Charter of Affiliation'

Shillong: The Assam Rifles and the Indian Coast Guard signed the ‘Charter of Affiliation’ at HQ DGAR, Laitkor, Shillong on Wednesday. The charter was formally signed by the Director General of the Assam Rifles Lt General Sukhdeep Sangwan and the Director General of the Indian Coast Guard Rajendra Singh.

Delivering their respective speeches at the ceremonial function, the top brass of both the forces gave a brief outline on how the two forces would share their combative and other experiences to further bolster the operational capabilities of the men.

“We are assigned with the same mandate in their respective domain and have the same challenges in protecting our borders, countering cross-border terrorism, narcotics smuggling both on land and the sea,” stated DG Rajendra Singh. He added that the synergy of the two border-guarding forces will facilitate greater understanding of operational ethos, sharing of best practices from each other, building camaraderie and utilization of each other’s assets for operations, training, sports and adventure.

Director General of Assam Rifles Lt General Sukhdeep Sangwan referred on how this concept was conceptualized in the month of March this year. He termed this agreement as historic because “these two forces with the nerves of steel will augment the operational capabilities – right from the high seas to the jungles of the Northeast.

The affiliation has been carried out between 3rd (Naga Hills) Battalion of the Assam Rifles and Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Shaurya’. The signing of the “Charter of Affiliation” was preceded by a joint wreath-laying ceremony at the Assam Rifles War Memorial and a combined ‘Guard of Honour’ led by Capt Ruchi Pathak of the Assam Rifles.
