FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT
TAMULPUR, Jan 19: The 48-hour Assam bandh called by the Oboro Suraksha Samiti, opposing Prime Minister rendra Modi’s visit to Kokrajhar on Tuesday, disrupted normal life in several parts of Lower Assam today. Additiol forces were deployed in the sensitive areas, but there was no report of any untoward incident.  The bandh began at 5 am on Monday, affecting normal life in Lower Assam’s non-Bodo-domited areas like, Rangia, Patshala, Barpeta, lbari, Bongaigaon, Gossaigaon, Tamulpur, grijuli, Mushalpur, Nikachi and Dumuni. However, it failed to evoke any response in Guwahati and Upper Assam.  Attendance in government offices was thin while educatiol and business establishments remained closed in most parts of Lower Assam. Long-distance buses were affected, but train services remained normal.
