Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha observes Balidaan Divas

UDALGURI, August 25: The Assam State committee of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha observed the day of supreme sacrifice of Indian Gorkha martyr Major Durga Malla as ‘Balidaan Divas’ at Udalguri. The programme was initiated by Tarapati Upadhyaya, renowned litterateur, by lighting a lamp on that occasion. Puspadhar Sarma, the Principal of Udalguri Higher Secondary School, initiated the tribute to the martyr. The meeting was presided over by Nityanda Upadhyaya, the president of Assam State Committee of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha and conducted by general secretary Lalit Subba. Puspadhar Sarma, the former president of Assam State Committee of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha, delivered a speech on the sacrifice of Major Durga Malla. Nityanda Upadhyaya and Tarapati Upadhyaya  also spoke on the occasion. Major Durga Malla fought against the British as a soldier of Ajad Hind Fauj and later he was hanged by the British. In this meeting a new adhoc committee of Udalguri branch was also formed with Rudra Shashtry as president, Santiram Sarma as working president and Ran Bahadur Chetry as general secretary.
