SHILLONG: The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Teinwell Dkhar has said that the nomination of senior leader Bindo M Lanong as an MDC will greatly benefit the district council.
Speaking to The Sentinel, Dkhar said, “Lanong has experience especially as he has won the MDC elections consecutively for six terms and also held the responsible positions of CEM, Chairman and Leader of Opposition in the KHADC.” He said that in the coming days, the district council will form a new committee to review the rules and laws under KHADC and that committee will be headed by Lanong as its Chairman.
“At present there is a need to strengthen all the rules and laws of the KHADC,” the CEM pointed out.
Dkhar further said that as an MDC he worked with Lanong in 2004 when he had won the election for the first time and thus learned a lot from him, ‘and hence his nomination is a great boon for the district council’.
The UDP working president and former Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M Lanong was recently inducted into the KHADC as a nominated member.
The oath of office to Lanong was administered by the Judge of District Council Court in the presence of KHADC chief Teinwell Dkhar, Chairman of the Council Pynshngain N Syiem, executive members and others. Lanong was first elected to the 30-member KHADC in 1972 and has never lost in the Council’s elections.
