GUWAHATI, Dec 8: Protesting against their suspension for the entire winter session, BJP MLAs on Tuesday protested outside the main gate of the Assembly. The MLAs raised slogans against the government and termed their suspension as illegal and anti-democracy.

Suspended on Monday for misconduct in the House, the BJP MLAs marched towards the Assembly at 9 pm on Tuesday morning, shouting slogans against the Chief Minister and his government. However, the police restricted them from entering the Assembly compound. This forced the MLAs to sit in front of the main gate and demonstrate.

But when TV jourlists reached the spot, the MLAs tried to force through the police barricade to enter the Assembly compound. The police had to exert force and took them to the Assembly canteen where they were kept detained.

Speaking to the media, MLA Jayanta Malla Baruah said, “What happened yesterday is an injustice. The Chief Minister orchestrated the murder of democracy inside the House. We can’t go inside the Assembly, but we will continue to protest outside.

Interestingly Youth Congress activists too staged a similar protest demonstration at the same place later. They were led by APYC president Mas Bora. However, Youth Congress activists making their way into the Assembly premises during the winter session has raised eyebrows, as the House is in session.
