GUWAHATI: Satisfied with the performance of the Assam government on the Prime Minister’s Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) during 2016-17 and 2017-18, the Centre has sanctioned Rs 2,600 crore for construction of two lakh more houses in the State during the financial year 2019-20. The rates of completion of the PMAY houses across the State during the two fiscal years were markedly better than that of earlier years. Talking to The Sentinel, State Panchayat and rural Development Minister Naba Kumar Doley said, “We’ll begin the construction of the houses as per norms at the earliest.”
During the two financial years, altogether 1,74,863 PMAY houses were constructed as against the sanctioned 2,26,535 PMAY houses (as on the first part of June 2019).
The aim of the government is to fulfill the Prime Minister’s mission of houses for all Indians by 2022. Each beneficiary under the PMAY scheme is allotted Rs 1,30,000 for the construction of a single unit under the scheme.
