Chain secures India's seventh Rio Olympics shooting quota

Gabala, Aug 14: Asian Games bronze medal-winning rifle shooter Chain Singh secured India's seventh Rio 2016 Olympics shooting qualification place by reaching the fil of the men's 50 metre Rifle 3 Positions event at the ongoing World Cup here on Friday.

Chain reached the eight-man fil in seventh position with a score of 1174 on the sixth day of competition to earn the qualification spot. He eventually finished eighth, being the first to be elimited in the fil round on Friday.

Chain is the tiol record holder for the 50 metre Rifle 3 Positions event and the 50m Rifle Prone discipline.

Olympic bronze medallist Gagan rang only maged a 17th place finish in the same event with a score of 1170 while Surendra Sinh Rathod shot 1166 to be 32nd at the end of qualifying.

Women's pistol shooter Hee Sidhu missed an Olympic quota after finishing 12th at the end of the qualifying rounds of the women's 10 metre Air Pistol.

Only three slots were available for the qualification in the event. The other Indian women in the event, Yashaswini Singh Deswal and Nivetha Paramantham shot scores of 379 and 375 to finish 22nd and 51st respectively.

Also on Friday, the Indian women's trap team of Shagun Chowdhary, Shreyasi Singh and Rajeshwari Kumari failed to make it to the fil. IANS
