GUWAHATI: St Jude India Childcare Centre was inaugurated at Dr. B Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI), Guwahati on February 10, 2019. The Centre will provide free accommodation, food, counseling, learning and recreational facilities to all childhood cancer patients and their parents. This is the first facility of its kind in the entire North Eastern Region.
BBCI serves patients from all over North East India and more than 250 pediatric cancers are diagnosed every year and round 15 to 20 patients (both old and new) receive chemotherapy every day.
Bringing a new ray of hope for patients, the Assam Gas Company Limited has introduced a scheme 'Aparajeeya' under CSR initiatives for free investigation and treatment of all childhood cancer patients at BBCI. So far, 450 pediatric patients have received free treatment under the scheme. It is hoped that with the establishment of St Jude India Childcare Centre for free food, accommodation and free treatment under the Aparajaya scheme of Assam Gas Company Limited, all the childhood cancer patients will be able to complete treatment which will result in better survival and good quality of life.
