Childhood Diarrhoea: District Medical Officer Seeks Proactive Roles

ITANAGAR: The proactive role of all stakeholders in the prevention and management of childhood diarrhoea to achieve “zero child deaths due to childhood diarrhoea was emphasized in the district-level coordination-cum-orientation on Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight (IDCF-2019) organized by the East Siang District Health Society at Pasighat on Tuesday.

District Medical Officer (DMO)-cum-IDCF nodal officer of the district, Dr Kaling Dai stressed the proper implementation of all activities of focus areas during the IDCF 2019 to be observed from June 28 to July 11 next.

Ensuring distribution of ORS and administration of zinc tablets to under-five children (U5) to combat dehydration due to childhood diarrhoea, coverage of all houses, awareness activities, proper sanitation, safe drinking water, disinfection of water sources, hand-washing demonstrations in schools are key areas, he said.

“Soon to be introduced Rota Virus Vaccine will be effective in preventing cases of life-threatening diseases,” he added.

He also asked the respective medical officers in-charges of PHCs and CHCs, Block Community Mobilizers, Health workers, ANMS, ASHAS to maintain timeline of IDCF implementation in reducing incidence of Diarrhoeal cases.

The DMO also sought cooperation of departments of PHE, ICDS, education, PMC in particular and others in general. He further instructed the MOs to entrust ANMs and ASHAs to visit every house, particularly vulnerable areas, so that no child is left out during the fortnight long IDCF, an official release informed here.
