LAKHIMPUR: As a part of the nationwide protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, the Lakhimpur District Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged mass protest against the Citizenship Bill in Lakhimpur on Monday. The political party led by district secretary Amiya Kumar Hundique, State executive member Golap Gogoi, district member Hem Goswami and Padma Dev Sarmah took out a protest rally from North Lakhimpur Railway Station.
They shouted slogans demanding the scrapping of the Bill, to safeguard the rights and interests of the indigenous communities of Assam, farmer fraternity and the workers. The protesters shouted slogans against the Union and State governments along with RSS too. Then they arrived at the Lakhimpur DC office premises and demonstrated Bikshyov against the Citizenship Bill and submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India to withdraw it immediately, terming the Bill as 'against the secular ideology of the Indian Constitution'. "We will continue our protest until and unless the Citizenship Bill is scrapped," vowed the protesters unanimously.
