Demonetization: Piggy banks, children's pocket money comes in handy

Silchar, Nov 12: Demonetization of notes has compelled people to fall back on their small savings, piggy banks, coins and notes of small denomitions. People are seen collecting and preserving notes and coins as much as they can, to meet daily expenses. Pocket money has come into handy and people are seen counting coins and keeping small changes with them in order to buy everyday items. On a lighter vein side, it can be said that the demonetization of notes of higher denomitions have made people realize the value, importance and necessity of keeping small changes. Prime Minister rendra Modi’s decision to ban the existing Rs.500 and Rs.1000 notes took the tion by surprise when people were busy with Trump-Hillary election. All of a sudden, notes Rs.10, 20, 50 and 100 have acquired much value compared to Rs.500 and Rs.1000.

 Fish sellers, vegetable vendors, small shop owners, rickshaw pullers and drivers of public transport are facing many problems owing to the scarcity of changes. Shopkeepers are uble to provide customers with change and thus have to turn them away. Small time owners of business are facing trouble and many shops were seen shuttered. They are of the opinion that it is useless to open shops as people keep on coming for exchanging their notes of denomitions, Rs.500 or Rs.1000 and no longer pay changes. People are reluctant to let go their small notes of Rs.10, 20, 50 and 100. People are at times forced to buy costly items for getting change for shopkeepers. Shopkeepers are not giving changes to persons who buy items lesser than Rs.200 or Rs.300. Though it is a bold step, students, unemployed persons, homemakers have been affected direct or indirectly. They are finding it difficult to spend money as they used to do. Students are seen keeping a close eye on their savings. rendra Modi took the tion by surprise when he declared a ban on Rs.500 and Rs.1000 notes on Tuesday night. It is a ‘massive cleaning drive’, as characterized by the Prime Minister.
