New Delhi: On May 25, Supriya Prajapati, a 26-year-old
pregnant woman gave birth to a COVID19 positive baby girl. She is a resident of
the Cantt area in Varanasi. Earlier, before the delivery, the mother had tested
negative. The mother and baby were admitted to the SSL Hospital in Banaras
Hindu University, Varanasi.
The doctors at the SSL Hospital had run the Covid tests on the pregnant woman before she delivered the baby and the test results were negative. However, the newborn girl has tested positive right after her birth.
Anil Prajapati, the father of the newborn unable to contemplate the situation have expressed, " The baby girl's sample was taken from the operation theatre even before the child was given to us."
The hospital authorities and the family are surprised and confused at the test reports. However, the Superintendent of The SSL Hospital, K.K Gupta has said that this is not a rare or an abnormal incident.
He further said, " The RT-PCR test's sensitivity was up to 70 percent. The woman's sample might have gone beyond that capacity. So the woman's Covid-19 test would be done again."
