Dibrugarh: Despite being reported few days back, there has been no stopping to wastes like cow dung finding their way to the otherwise clean Dibrugarh Town Protection (DTP) Dyke. Such filthy wastes, that emit a foul smell other than discouraging people from using the DTP for recreational purposes, are mostly seen in two narrow stretches – one near Panchali, and the other close to the back end of the Shri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara.
It’s surprising enough that the people owning the cattle tie them to the low pillars erected on the DTP in broad daylight, and yet manage to get unnoticed. Many people are of the view that there seems to be some kind of a nexus between the cattle-owners and the ones responsible for the overall maintenance of the infrastructure. In light of the under-construction beautification project alongside the river bank, having a clean and hygienic DTP has become all the more important. Ever since the DTP was renovated on a grand scale by the government with the support of the aid of Asian Development Bank, the embankment has been attracting more and more number of people from regions both far and wide. While a vast number of people from all walks of life use it for exercises and other health benefits, for many others, it has become a favourite hang-out spot. Not keeping it clean can, therefore, put all this at stake!
