Digital innovation and technology has changed traditiol library format'

KOKRAJHAR, July 8: The first intertiol conference on ‘Transforming Library’, jointly organized by the Central Institute of Technology (CIT), Kokrajhar, in association with the Department of Library and Information Science, Gauhati University, began from Saturday. It will come to an end on July 10 at the Central Institute of Technology Kokrajhar.
The deputy chief of BTC, Kampa Borgoyary, who is also the president of Central Institute of Technology (CIT) maging committee, formally iugurated the three-day long intertiol conference.
 From eight countries like the USA, Spain, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, many Professors, Heads of the Department of Library and Information Science and research scholars are participating in the conference.
Talking to media persons, Prasan Raweera, chief guest and Director of tiol Institute of Library and Information Science, (NILIS) and University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, said, “It is a good topic because with digital innovation and digital technology, the traditiol library format has changed and we have to change so that the children in the 21st century can learn digitally. No reading textbooks and no visiting libraries. Librarians have to use innovative techniques to take the library to them.” He added that the new generation liked new technology and libraries needed to be changed. “This is my third visit to India and for first visit to Kokrajhar,” he said and added that Sri Lanka had also organized such an intertiol conference on digital library.
Dr. Sangrang Brahma, Librarian of Kokrajhar CIT, who is also the secretary of the reception committee of the intertiol conference, said that it was the first time that such a semir of intertiol level had been organized at CIT, Kokrajhar in association with the Department of Library and Information Science, Gauhati University. He said the CIT, Kokrajhar and Department of Library and Information Science, Gauhati University, would provide a platform to address various issues related to present trend of library services and its need for transformation.  “The response of the professiols is wonderful. We have received more than 150 research papers out of which we have selected 114 papers for presentation and publications in the conference and hope these papers will be able to address the pros and cones of the issues related to transforming library in the present and future day’s context,” he said, adding that library was not only the collection of books but it was the gateway of knowledge, ideas and thoughts and a single positive thought could lead to the growth and positive transformation of any organization, be it an institution or library.  Chairman of the iugural session, Prof.Sanjay Kumer Singh, Professor and Head of the Department of Library and Information Science, chief guest Prasan Raweera, Director, of the tiol Institute of Library and Information Science, (NILIS), University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, Prof. Clara M. Chu, Director and Mortension Distinguish Professor USA , professors of Dhaka University and Spain University and professors from Nepal were also present in the conference.
