GUWAHATI: An FIR has been lodged in Dispur Police Station against the translation of the National Song of Assam ‘O mor apunar dekh’ into ‘the Miya language’. The complainant is Pranabjit Doloi, hailing from Survey in the Beltola area, Guwahati.

According to the FIR, a report has been published in a news portal that the National Song of Assam authored by Xahityarathi Laxminath Bezbaruah is the National Song of Assam that got constitutional recognition. According to the Constitution of India, the translation of the National Anthem or national songs of the same stature is a crime, the FIR said, and added: “There’s no language recognized as the Miya language. The distortion of the National Song of Assam is tantamount to distorting the repute of Laxminath Bezbaruah.” To this effect, a case (1978/19 under Section 153 of IPC) has been registered at Dispur Police Station. The case is being investigated.
