New Delhi: Taking serious note of the fact that the States in the Northeast are not using funds up to the mark DoNER Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has asked the chief ministers of the States in the region to expedite fund utilization.

Aware of the fact that the Central fund utilization process in the region is very poor, Dr Singh has asked the north-eastern States to expedite fund utilization so that the financial support made available to them from the Centre can be used to the maximum extent for the development of the region.

The DoNER minister said this while presiding over a meeting of senior officers of DoNER and NEC to review the status of Central Budget expenditure in the Northeast in the current financial year.

He said the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi places Northeast very high on the priority and the Prime Minister himself takes keen interest in following development activities in the region. “But delayed response on the part of some of the states deprives the people from getting the optimum benefits envisaged for them,” he said.

The meeting also decided that DoNER Ministry and the North Eastern Council will embark on hi-tech digitalization programmes for all the eight States in the region. In addition, commemorative programmes to observe the 150th birth centenary of Mahatma Gandhi will also be held in the Northeast.

DoNER secretary Naveen Verma, NEC secretary Ram Muivah and other senior officers were present at the meeting.
