Drug smugglers apprehended

GUWAHATI, march 30: Troops of Guwahati Frontier Border Security Force apprehended two drug smugglers from the Indo-Bangladesh Border of Mankachar in South Salmara. On the intervening night of March 28 and 29 based on specific information of BSF Intelligence branch, troops of 6 Bn BSF and Mankachar Police, launched an operation in Mankachar area and arrested two drug  smugglers. They were identified as  Samsul Alam (30 years) and Noor Mohd (48 years) of Sopara under Mankachar police station of  South Salamara district of Assam along with  4,566 yaba tablets. These drug smugglers were active for last two years in Mankachar and its adjoining area.

This drug is prohibited under the rcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985. According to sources, these tablets are primarily being manufactured in Myanmar and then sold in India and  Bangladesh as the demand for yaba tablets are on the rise especially among the youth. The apprehended smugglers were further handed over to Mankachar police for legal action. Besides, BSF troops of Guwahati Frontier have also seized 273 cattle heads having an approximate value of Rs. 29,73,229 along with 70.6 kg ganja and 1833 Phensidyl bottles of Rs. 2,33,710, a press release stated.
