GUWAHATI: Taking a foot forward towards generating public awareness among the city dwellers, the District Transport Office (DTO) Kamrup (Metro) with the aid of Kara organization has created a social media page, where active videos and messages on road safety are created.

The Facebook page ‘Assam Road Safety’ is loaded with content that provide an interesting watch which lightly hints at the dire consequences of driving carelessly and yet manages to drive home the point. The photo captions about a certain traffic constable Nagen Das such as Habodhan Nagen Das ahi ase, Nagen Dasor khong kio uthe, are supposed to wittily intimidate the drivers who drink and drive, use mobile phones while driving, indulge in rash driving, unfastening seat belts, not wearing helmets, etc as he tells them off and cuts out a fine.

The videos may have been done in light humour but leaves a lasting impact on the mind without being condescending. This step might just push the notorious drivers who are ever busy not abiding by the law to actually heed the fictional Nagen Das’s advice.

DTO officer Arun Kumar Bora while speaking to The Sentinel said, “I formulated this idea as I was aware that currently, social media is actively made use of by the young and old generation alike. Moreover, the videos can be viewed and shared and ultimately reach more viewers through social media, as such, we thought that this was the right platform to encourage the safe drive initiative. This is why we made the videos in a subtle comedy so that it is both enjoyed and yet deliver the message.”
