East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Claudia Lyngwa refutes Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council claim

SHILLONG: The Superintendent of Police (SP) East Khasi Hills district Claudia Lyngwa on Thursday informed that Romeo Lyngdoh who was killed by the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) was an overground worker of the banned militant outfit.

It may be mentioned that Lyngdoh was shot three times on the chest at his residence in Lapalag village, East Khasi Hills, bordering Bangladesh on May 12. Later, the HNLC admitted killing Lyngdoh on grounds that he was a police informer.

Speaking to reporters in the city, Claudia Lyngdoh refuted the claims made by the HNLC that he was a police informer and said that Lyngdoh was an overground worker of the outfit but because he had misused funds of the organization they took him out.

When asked, she informed that as per information received by the police, there was witness who saw two unknown persons entering the village from the border (Bangladesh).

She said that a case has also been registered by the police and all efforts are being carried out to capture the culprits.

“This is only a case of misuse of funds of the HNLC by Lyngdoh in which a hit was carried out by them to set an example to others not to engage in similar activities,” she said.

She also said that according to HNLC they have been hunting Lyngdoh for three years. However, they were unable to trace him until recently.

The SP informed that the outfit at present has only around 15-16 cadres and they don’t even have the funds to recruit new cadres nor to set up a training base.
