Egg excluded for Tripura's mid-day meal menu

Agartala, January 24 : The Tripura government has stopped serving egg in the mid-day meal programme following the reported outbreak of Bird flu in a government firm at Gandhi Gram, about 12 km from here. A circular in this regard has been sent to all the school inspectorates of the state. Similar step has been taken in case of Anganwadi Centres where egg and broiler meats are usually distributed under mother and child nutrition program.

The government has already taken step against the Bird Flu and a culling operation has been conducted in and around the Gandhi Gram firm and over eight thousand birds were destroyed. The Animal Resource Department in a statement urged the people not to be panicked as the epidemic has remained confined in a specific area only. Even then the state government asked all the schools not to serve egg in mid-day meal to avoid any kind of risk.
