GUWAHATI: Reacting to the budget announcements made by the Finance Minister of Assam on Wednesday, Ashish Phookan, Chairman, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) Assam state council said "this is development oriented budget. Particularly two important decisions, raising of the threshold limit for GST registration to Rs 40 lakh and revision of the annual turnover limit for availing Composition Scheme under GST to Rs 1.5 Cr will help many small businessmen"

Phookan further said that the Asom Darsan and Asom Mala Schemes will be able to give a massive boost to the tourism industry in the state by providing much needed secondary support services necessary for development of tourism business by helping in Improving and upgrading basic infrastructure. He also congratulated the government on the initiatives for infrastructure development. “We welcome the attention that the tea industry has received in the budget, particularly at a time when the tea industry is going through a difficult time”, he added.
