Altogether 3,401 pilgrims from Northeast bound for Mecca

GUWAHATI, June 20: Altogether 3401 pilgrims from across the north eastern states are all set to fly to Saudi Arabia for Hajj from LGBI Air Port on July 14 till 22 in a phase manner this year. However, around 500 pilgrims of Barak Valley will join the voyage via Kolkata. This was informed to media by the North East Hajj Coordination Committee Chairman Ranjit Dutta who is also the Minister for Welfare of Minorities and Development of Assam on Wednesday after a meeting was held at the state Secretariat. Sharing in details about the preparation of the pilgrimage to media, Dutta said that the Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will flag off the pilgrims at LGBI Air Port on July 14.

Although the preparation in this regard is almost coming to end, the proposed budget amount of Rs 90 lakh for the current year’s Hajj pilgrimage is yet to be released by the finance department. However, training and health camps are scheduled from June 24 and will be conducted by the district Hajj committee under the aegis of the district administration in their respective districts, Dutta said.

The minister added that the health camp in Guwahati will be conducted at Haji Musafir Khana, Islam Basti where he himself is supposed to attend.
