Heavy downpour causes flash flood in Jorhat

JORHAT, July 8: After heavy shower in Jorhat city, rain inundated roads, government office campuses, schools and colleges on Saturday. Due to illegal encroachment of narrow culverts in several public and private areas, artificial flood resulted in a chaotic situation in the city. Two rivulets- Tarajan and Mohuwajan – have been blocked by thermocol boxes, plastic containers, bottles and cartons. As a result, other drains and culverts have also been blocked, resulting in artificial flood in areas like Bongal Pukhuri-west, Club Road, Atila gaon and Kushal Nagar.
