GAURISAGAR, December 24: For the security of Assam, safeguard of indigenous Assamese people and fulfillment of the dream of the student community, the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) will continue its agitation. This is stated by Dr. Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharyya, chief adviser of AASU, while speaking as chief guest in the open session of Hatighuli Regiol Students’ Union held at Silpukhuri High School playground on Saturday evening on the outskirts of Gaurisagar in Sivasagar district.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bhattacharyya said that despite Assam being rich in tural resources, the living standard of Assamese indigenous people was yet to upgrade. He also said that human resource of Assam had not been properly utilized. He urged upon the planners of India, as well as the Government of Assam, to plan properly for the development of human resource of Assam.
Dr. Bhattacharyya opined that a vision plan was required. He also criticized the present primary education system under which 5,000 LP schools were running with a single teacher. He even stressed change of textbooks and curriculum. Like tiol Accredited Assessment Council (AC) in colleges, school-level School Assessment Commission should be constituted for reforms in high and higher secondary schools of Assam. The meeting was conducted by Dimbeswar Borah, president, reception committee.
Dr. Saumarjyoti Mahanta, Principal of Sibsagar Commerce College, iugurated the meeting. In his speech Dr. Mahanta said that without proper utilization of human resource, a State, as well as the country, could not develop.
The dignitaries attended the meeting were Sarat Hazarika, Anil Gogoi, education and organizing secretaries of AASU, central Executive member Jardan Goswami, Sanjib Changmai, president and secretaries of AASU, Sivasagar and Jorhat District Committee. In the meeting a souvenir titled Nid, published on the occasiond edited by Sasanka th and Arun Hazarika, was unveiled by Dr. Samujjal Kr Bhattacharyya.
In the open session, as many as 30 organizations of greater Hatighuli area warmly felicitated Dr. Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharyya. Later, Subudh Sonowal, Superintendent of Police, Sivasagar, iugurated the cultural night. In the function, noted artist Arun Hazarika (widely known as Netrakai), Nil Akash and Dipsikha performed. The meeting started with a chorus performed by the artistes of AASU Hatighuli Regiol Unit.
