GUWAHATI: Assam Tea Corporation Limited (ATCL) has 14 tea gardens under it in the state where over twenty thousand labours/employees work. But the workers have alleged that they have been deprived by the State Government.
Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS) has alleged that the Labour Act has not been implemented in the tea gardens under ATCL. Labourers of the tea gardens of the Brahmaputra Valley receive Rs 167 per day and labourers of the tea gardens under ATCL receive Rs 115 per day which is a difference of Rs 52. They have also complained about the lack of drinking water and health facilities for a long time.
ACMS said, “We already submitted a memorandum to both Industry Minister and Labour Minister describing our problems and we held a protest in support of our demands. However, the government has not paid heed. All tea gardens under ATCL should be developed and our other demands should be paid attention to by the government or we will have to hold a protest again.”
