Indira Gandhi Stadium handed over to FIFA

GUWAHATI, Sept 26: The Sports Authority of Assam today handed over Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium to FIFA ahead of the U-17 World cup beginning on October 6. Guwahati will host the first game on October 8.

The secretary of the Sports Authority of Assam Pabitraram Khound officially handed over the agreement paper to Roma khan, the Head of Venues of U-17 World Cup, 2017.

Talking to The Sentinel Khound today said, “The stadium is officially handed over to FIFA today. The function was held at the office of the Directoreate of Sports and Youth Welfare. The stadium will now be under FIFA’s custody till the semifil match of the competition is over.”

It may be mentioned here that Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium will host 9 matches of the forthcoming U-17 World Cup which included six matches at the group stage along with one pre quarter fil, one quarter fil and one semi fil. The semi fil match will be held on October 25.

When asked about the preparation khound said, “Stadium is now perfect shape to host the event. All the major works related to the competition are completed.“

Meanwhile participating teams for the U-17 World Cup would likely to arrive in the city from October 2. Guwahati will host the matches of group ‘E’ along with one group game of Group ‘F’. The group ‘E’ comprised of four teams-France, Japan, New Caledonia and Honduras. As per the information available France will likely to be the first team who will arrive in the city on October 2.
