Dibrugarh, Dec 20: The Joint Action Committee of Tea Tribes Adivasi Assam (JACTA) submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India on Monday putting forward certain demands in favour of the tea tribes and Adivasi people of the State in particular, and Assam in general.

The organization that works for the welfare of these downtrodden communities of the State has called for a minimum wage of Rs 350 for the tea garden workers of both Brahmaputra and Barak Valley. It has also requested the Centre to reserve jobs for them in various public organizations and civic bodies, apart from restoring the provision of providing rations to the tea workers.

Moreover, the group has appealed to the Prime Minister to find a permanent solution to Assam’s land dispute with other States, and also registered its opposition against the Centre’s decision to grant citizenship to the Hindu Bangladeshis. For the development of the tea tribe and Adivasi communities of Assam, JACTA has also demanded an autonomous council for them, among several others.
