JAGIROAD: The Urban Development Department (UDD), Government of Assam, has not appointed any chairman for the Jagiroad Development Authority (JDA) for the past five months. The term of the former chairman had expired on May 19 this year and since then the JDA has been running without any chairman. It is further alleged that during this period no official files have been disposed off for which people are facing problems. Many house construction activities have been going on without the no-objection certificate (NOC) from the JDA. Even the monthly salary has not been paid to the employees for the last few months. As per the provision of the Assam Town and Country Planning Act, 1959, in such a condition the government can appoint the Deputy Commissioner as administrator of the authority till a chairman is appointed. But the government has not taken any step in this regard so far.
