Kamrup DC Biswajeet Pegu Affixes Certain Directives In Run-Up To Ambubachi Mela

GUWAHATI: In the run-up to the Ambubachi Mela from June 22 till 26, Kamrup (M) Deputy Commissioner Biswajeet Pegu affixed certain guidelines as a convivial gesture for the lakhs of devotees expected to throng the Kamakhya temple.

Congregation of lakhs of devotees from various parts of the country are expected to pour in the city, and as such, Pandu station, Naharbari, Baripara and Fancy Bazar (jail) have been chosen as camp sites. The DC has entrusted the task of ensuring cleanliness of the city, the Kamakhya Devalaya premises and the camps to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).

The Joint Director of Health Services will deploy medical teams with adequate number of doctors and paramedics at the camps and temple premises.

While the APDCL will ensure uninterrupted power supply, the ATDCL will remain responsible for publicity of the event. While ASTC will provide adequate number of buses to ferry the pilgrims, the PWD will construct pandals at designated sites. The PHE department has been entrusted with the construction of adequate number of toilets. Moreover, processions of any sort have been prohibited during the entire span of the mela.

The Commissioner of Police was requested to plan ahead installation of CCTV cameras, barricading, preparation of traffic plan, staying arrangement for security personnel and camps, route lining, placement of security personnel including lady security personnel and deployment and training of volunteers from Civil Defence, NCC and Scouts.
