Bokajan: At a time when the Karbi Anglong Police is struggling to lift the veil over the mystery that shrouds the murder of an established businessman, Moolsingh Rathore, followed by loot of cash and jewellery from his residence, police arrested the absconding accountant of the businessman from his residence in West Bengal on July 8.

A team of Karbi Anglong Police, led by the Officer in-charge of Khatkhati Police Station, arrested the third suspect, Sandip Mishra from his residence at Asansol in Burdwan district of West Bengal. Earlier, Karbi Anglong Police had arrested two persons following the recovery of an unattended car believed to have been used by the gang of assailants to flee from the spot after the robbery. However, nothing much seems to have moved in line and the murder and robbery continue to remain a mystery.

Mishra was the accountant of the deceased businessman who had reportedly gone undercover a few weeks before the incident. Mishra was involved in financial mismanagement from the account of the businessman and that of his son and had allegedly duped them of an undisclosed sum of money believed to be over Rs 50 lakh. Police are investigating his involvement in the incident but are yet to achieve any major breakthrough in the case.

The failure of the police in cracking the case has generated a sense of insecurity amongst the business community and has also become a major embarrassment for the police department. Rathore was shot multiple times from point blank range by a gang of 6-7 armed assailants who had stormed into his residence along the Assam-Nagaland border in East Karbi Anglong on June 23. The assailants later decamped with cash and jewellery from his residence.
