Local Complaints Committee For Protection of Women Against Sexual Harassment

GUWAHATI: The Local Complaints Committee was formed by the office of the DC Kamrup (M) to discharge functions as per the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (SHWWP) (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act of 2013. The committee was constituted on June 12, 2019 for a period of three years.The first meeting of the committee was held on Thursday at the Conference Hall of the DC and was presided over by Chairperson of the committee Anurita Pathak Hazarika who is the State Director of the North East Network, women’s organization, Assam. The meeting was attended by Additional DC BB Bhagawati and District Development Commissioner of Kamrup (M) Dr Bijoya Choudhury. A sensitization on the SHWWP Act was felicitated by the Chairperson for the members present. The sensitization also included understanding issues of sexual harassment of women at work place, role of Local Committee, complaints procedures, inquiry procedures, duties of employees, etc.

It also made an action plan to conduct awareness at block levels, make application to appropriate government authority for budgetary allocation, make public the information on the Local Committee and its accessibility through local newspapers and prepare annual reports. The next meeting of the committee will be held in December 2019.
