Mahavir Jayanti celebrated in Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh, April 19: The 2617th birth anniversary of Lord Mahaveer was celebrated with gaiety and religious fervour on Tuesday. The day is widely celebrated by the Jain community people as Mahavir Jayanti.

The Jain community here, as part of the celebrations brought out a colorful procession which passed through the main thoroughfare of the town like AT Road, Mancotta Road, RKB Path, HS Road and later culmited at Jain Temple, Graham Bazaar. The multi-coloured procession witnessed the participation of people of all ages. The religious display even exhibited the ethnic culture of Bihu festival. Women in similar attires were seen actively taking part in the procession.

A statue of Lord Mahaveer was also taken out for people to seek blessings of the holy saint, which was placed on a moving platform that displayed the teachings of the divine Lord.
