SHILLONG: Mawphlang legislator SK Sunn has written to the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma urging him not to miss the chance of having a Central Agricultural University (CAU).

“I request the government under your leadership to seriously take up the matter with the concerned ministry to get the proposal which appears to have been abandoned/shelved way back in 2014, but revived once again as the State has fulfilled its commitment,” Sunn said in his letter to the Chief Minister.

According to the legislator, he has been following the proposal for establishment of the CAU for Meghalaya at Kyrdemkulai and even raised the issue in the State Assembly.

He pointed out that on the floor of the House he had expressed his doubts that the proposal for establishment of a CAU for Meghalaya may have been withdrawn or shelved and that the ongoing work at Kyrdemkulai may be that of CAU, Imphal. Sunn however reminded that the government removed the doubts and confirmed that the ongoing work at Kyrdemkulai is for the establishment of new a CAU in the State and that work is in progress.

The legislator also recalled that on May 1, 2018, he had expressed his doubts on the statement of the government and informed that as per information gathered, the college at Kyrdemkulai and Post Graduate College at Barapani is functioning under the CAU, Imphal.

“And, at this juncture, no one knows about the fate of CAU, Meghalaya,” Sunn added.
